Cách dùng chữ MIND


Hi there!
    Giới từ là cha, là ông của một câu trong tiếng Anh - Do đó trong một câu mà thiếu giới từ thì cũng giống như ăn canh mà không húp nước hay ăn rau luộc mà không chấm mắm ... (đây là OGXT nói thôi nhé)
        What is on your mind?what is in your mind? Đây là là câu hỏi mà chúng ta - người Việt Nam cũng như nhiều người khác khi học Tiếng Anh hay bi gặp rắc rối. Tôi hy vọng các cụm từ về chữ MIND có chứa các giới từ như ON hoặc IN sẽ giúp các bạn hiểu rõ và sử dụng nó một cách đúng ý nghĩa hơn.

not thinking about something now, but knowing that it exists or is true

be/go out of your mind INFORMAL
  1. to be/become crazy or confused:
    - You must be out of your mind to want to see him again.
  2. be/go out of your mind with worry/jealousy/boredom etc:

to not be certain about something, or to have difficulty in making a decision

be of like mind FORMAL
to have the same opinions about someone or something as someone else
  • She had always worked with people of like mind.

be of one/be of the same mind (about)
to agree about someone or something
  • I think we're all of one mind about who to choose.

be of sound mind LEGAL
to not be mentally ill
  • Being of sound mind and body, my father lived to the age of 80

bring/call someone/something to mind
  1. to remind you of someone or something
    This latest crisis brings to mind the events of last year.
  2. to remember something
    I can't call his name to mind right now.

change your/someone's mind (about something)
to change your/someone else's decision or opinion
  • I've changed my mind. I don't want to go out.
  • What made you change your mind?
  • See if you can change his mind about coming with us.

come/spring to mind
if something comes to mind, suddenly you remember it or start to think about it
  • They asked for my comments, but nothing sprang to mind.

get someone/something out of your mind
to stop thinking about someone or something

used for saying that you are both very clever when you and another person have the same idea

used for threatening to do something, when you probably will not do it

  1. to know the type of person or thing that you want for a particular purpose
    What kind of house did you have in mind?
  2. have someone/something in mind for:
    What sort of person do you have in mind for the job?

  3. to remember someone or something
    Does everybody have the procedure firmly in mind?


have (it) in mind to do something FORMAL
to intend or want to do something
  • We had it in mind to take legal proceedings against them.

have a mind of its own INFORMAL
  1. if a machine or object has a mind of its own, it behaves in a way that you do not expect
    This shopping trolley has a mind of its own.
  2. have a mind of your own to have strong opinions and the ability to make your own decisions
    William certainly has a mind of his own!

have/keep an open mind
to be willing to listen to other people's opinions about someone or something
  • I told the committee that I had an open mind on the matter.

in your mind's eye
if you can see someone or something in your mind's eye, you can imagine or remember what they look like
  • In my mind's eye, I saw him coming down the path to meet me.

it's all in your mind MAINLY SPOKEN
used for saying that something is not real and is just being imagined

used for saying that someone is/becomes unable to remember or think anything

to be determined to have or achieve something

the way that you are thinking and feeling at the present time

to make you stop thinking or worrying about something

used for emphasizing that you are expressing your own opinion
