Phrasal verb là một động từ đi theo sau nó là một 'particle'. 'Particle' này có thể chỉ là một giới từ hay chỉ là một trạng từ, hoặc có thể một của mỗi thứ. Nói một cách khác - Một phrasal verb là một động từ được thay đổi nghĩa chính của chúng bởi một giới từ hay một trạng từ hoặc cả hai đi theo sau. Hầu hết mọi người nghĩ rằng nó là một giới từ.
